Not every makeup appointment is for a wedding or a production set. Sometimes you have a headshot session coming up and you know the camera will be unforgiving. Sometimes you have a big event and you just want to feel put-together and confident. And usually, you want someone who actually listens to what YOU want instead of doing what they want to do (maybe the reason makeup counters feel yucky and you maybe have a list of bad experiences in your memory?!)
That is exactly what private client makeup appointments with me are for.
With 15+ years of professional experience (including extensive commercial and production work) I understand what reads beautifully on camera, what falls flat, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I will never tell you that you need to feel uncomfortable in your skin (aka caked with makeup when that isn’t your taste) “just for the camera”. For headshots especially, this matters more than people realize. Makeup that looks great in a mirror often doesn't translate to a lens — but that doesn’t mean you have to look like someone else behind a mask. I know the difference, and I'll make sure you show up camera-ready AND feeling good in your skin.
My approach for private clients is the same as it is for every client I work with: I listen first. What do you love? What don't you love? What is your goal? What are you afraid of looking like? Our conversation (and my listening) shapes everything that follows, and it's why clients leave feeling (and looking) like themselves, just better.
Headshot Makeup & Why It Matters
Your headshot is doing a lot of work for you.
A great headshot can open doors. A bad one (one where the makeup is distracting, looks too heavy or like you’re trying too hard, clearly doesn't match how you look in real life, and made you come across as uncomfortable) can quietly undermine you before you've said a word. In the Phoenix and Scottsdale professional market, headshots are everywhere: LinkedIn, real estate sites, corporate bios, speaking profiles, media kits, and more.
The makeup for a headshot session requires a specific skillset. It needs to:
— Even and clarify the skin without masking it entirely
— Define features subtly so they read on camera without looking overdone in person
— Hold up under studio lighting or outdoor natural light, which shows everything
— Look natural at distance, in person, and in the final edited image
This is not the same as everyday makeup. And it's not the same as glam makeup. It's a specialized skill that comes from years of working on commercial sets (and with women who aren’t in love with feeling like makeup turns them into someone else), which is exactly the background I bring to every headshot appointment.
